Breathing Machine
Breathing Machine is an evolving installation project exploring atmosphere as a sculptural medium.
Drawing upon industrial heritage, environmental systems and embodied experience, the project investigates how light, sound, fabric and environmental conditions can be combined to create responsive atmospheric environments.
Current research focuses on airflow, suspended textiles, projection, sound and collective presence. Through a series of material tests, temporary interventions and site-responsive experiments, the work explores how invisible processes can be made perceptible and shared.
Rather than presenting a fixed object, Breathing Machine is developing as a living system: an installation that responds to changing conditions and invites audiences to experience space through movement, circulation and atmosphere.
Alongside commissioned development, the project is being informed by a series of small-scale atmospheric studies, temporary interventions and off-grid installations in overlooked spaces. These experiments function as testing grounds for larger works, allowing ideas to be explored through direct engagement with place, material and environmental conditions.
The project is currently in development through an ongoing programme of research, prototyping and public testing.
